About TF-CBT

TF-CBT
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a structured therapy modality provided to children and adolescents to help them heal from trauma. You can find more information about TF-CBT here.
TF-CBT involves psychoeducation, resourcing, caregiver/client (conjoint) work, trauma narration, and future safety planning.
When I work with kids and teens in TF-CBT we talk about things such as feelings, relaxation techniques, how trauma affects the brain and body, how their trauma experiences have affected them, and more.

TF-CBT Sessions
A typical session of TF-CBT with me will look something like this:
A brief check-in about what has been going on since our last session
Picking up our TF-CBT work where we left off
Checking in throughout the session
Closing our session with an activity, container exercise, assigning homework, etc.
FAQ’S
Caregivers sometimes have questions about TF-CBT, so I’ve provided answers to some common questions about TF-CBT and how I use it:
-
Where did you learn to do TF-CBT?
I am a nationally certified TF-CBT Therapist (certified by the TFCBT Therapist Certification Program) and received my training through the National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC).
-
How long is TF-CBT?
TF-CBT treatment length varies from person to person, but typically, it takes 8-25 sessions to complete.
-
I’m an adult (19 years old or older), can I do TF-CBT?
No. Unfortunately, TF-CBT is for children ages 3-18. If you are interested in services and are over 18, I can provide other treatment approaches that cater to your needs. Let’s talk and figure out what the best fit is!
